What is a School Counselor?

A School Counselor is a certified professional who works within a child's school environment to assist them in addressing academic, behavioral, emotional and social needs. We work with students, teachers, staff, parents and community members to advocate for and empower students. We follow the ASCA Code of Ethics and make sure that we aim to make our school equitable, provide a safe environment, and help students become well-rounded individuals.

Mission Statement

Wake County Public School System will provide a relevant and engaging education and will graduate students who are collaborative, creative, effective communicators and critical thinkers.

Vision Statement

Growing Learners and Leaders: Teachers and students at Sanford Creek Elementary School are lifelong learners, critical thinkers and collaborators who lead the way to positive change in the world.

American School Counselor Association

ASCA members include practicing school counselors as well school counseling students and higher education faculty. School counseling supervisors at the school, district and state level are also members of ASCA. As members of the American School Counselor Association, we promise to uphold those values and connect our school counseling program to our school's academic mission and school improvement plan. We will uphold the ASCA Ethical and Professional standards and promote the development of our program based on the ASCA National Model. Each year, the program is reviewed and new model is submitted to the school district for approval.
